Airbnb plans to begin introducing an AI travel agent during the first half of 2027, the company said in a shareholder letter accompanying its Q3 2026 earnings. The tool is being developed to create a customized interface based on a user's inquiry.

Rather than relying on a conventional chatbot for trip planning, Airbnb said the experience will assemble relevant elements as users ask questions. Those elements will include photos, maps, comparisons and itineraries, with the interface taking shape in real time.

The company said users will be able to take action within the experience. Its longer-term aim is for the agent to handle planning for a whole trip, covering homes and hotels alongside services and experiences. Which services will be available at launch remains unclear.

Airbnb also highlighted AI tools it introduced a couple of months earlier: search that accepts natural-language inquiries and AI-generated listing descriptions. The planned agent would expand the company's use of AI on its platform.
