Raspberry Pi is adding $80 to the price of its 16GB Pi 5 single-board computer, taking it to $385, co-founder and CEO Eben Upton announced. He attributed the increase to component shortages and the company's inability to find a suitable alternative supplier of 16GB DRAM modules.

The increase follows several price rises over the past year. At its January 2025 debut, the 16GB Pi 5 cost $120. The original Pi 5 arrived in 2023, with the 8GB configuration priced at $80.

Upton said Raspberry Pi was seeking to avoid raising prices across its whole product range. Alongside the Pi 5 change, the company is increasing the price of its 16GB Compute Module 5 by $40. Its all-in-one Raspberry Pi 500+, which also has 16GB of memory, will keep its current price.

Upton characterized the memory market's difficulties as temporary and said the increases could be reversed if memory chip costs return to normal. He did not give a timetable for a possible rollback.
