SpaceX expects to get less than 10% of its revenue from government contracts, Elon Musk said on X, according to Bloomberg. Government work accounted for 16.6% in the third quarter, compared with roughly a fifth in 2025.

AI computing rentals have become the company’s main revenue source. Its AI business generated US$7.56 billion in the third quarter, outpacing Starlink, with most of that income coming from computing capacity rented at its Memphis data centers.

Anthropic ranks as SpaceX’s largest customer, providing 34.5% of revenue. Bloomberg reported that its contracts allow it to leave beginning in early 2027 after giving 90 days’ notice. Musk has warned that few AI computing rental businesses would survive unless they had other income sources.

NASA and the Pentagon previously held the leading customer positions, paying SpaceX for astronaut transportation and national security satellite launches. The company retains a NASA contract for Starship to carry astronauts to the Moon’s surface as early as 2028.
