Apple has announced new tools called “app skills” that will allow third-party developers to build Siri AI integrations and define how the assistant handles tasks involving several steps. The company said the capabilities will arrive with iOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and corresponding software releases.

The initiative broadens developer access beyond the smaller group of supported schemas used by earlier versions of Siri AI. Apps will be able to guide Siri in selecting the actions needed to fulfill a request. Apple is also using the underlying capabilities to expand functions in its own apps.

Apple’s developer documentation describes a request that moves information between apps: Siri could locate sneakers saved as favorites, identify the user’s partner through Contacts and send the sneaker details through a messaging app.

The update will also let users make some requests without naming the app. For example, an active Live Activity from a ride-sharing service would give Siri the context to direct a request for an address change to that service. The operating system updates are currently available as developer betas.
