Anthropic is changing Claude Code’s instructions to steer it away from requests to recreate games owned by others, according to company programmer Addy Osmani. The restrictions instead direct the coding tool toward original projects using designs and assets supplied by users.

TechSpot reported that a rule began appearing in Claude Code on October 27 under a flag named “tengu_heron_brook.” Game decompilation enthusiasts discovered the change, which targets requests involving content from commercially available games.

Osmani subsequently confirmed that Anthropic was inserting two sentences into the instructions for Claude Code’s Opus 5.5 model. He said the company would keep refining the restrictions to balance competing considerations.

The change comes as developers use AI coding tools alongside earlier human research to adapt games for different platforms. Among the projects cited by TechSpot is AnyPS5, which is attempting to convert PlayStation 5 games into native PC versions. Such efforts involve decompiling or recompiling existing game code.
