Sine Engineering launches Finnish initiative for dual-use technology
The Ukrainian company is seeking government backing under a bilateral drone agreement for work on communications, navigation and onboard autonomy.

Ukraine’s Sine Engineering has announced a joint initiative with Finland covering the development, testing and production of technologies for military and civilian use. The company presented the project in Kyiv on Oct. 22 at the Ukrainian-Finnish Business Forum.
The planned research spans communications that can withstand disruption, navigation systems and onboard autonomy. Sine Engineering makes software that enables drone navigation without GPS. It supplies technology to around 200 drone producers in Ukraine, including companies making interceptor drones.
CEO and co-founder Andrii Chulyk said the company was seeking backing from both governments to bring the initiative under the Ukraine-Finland Drone Deal. Signed on Sept. 23, that agreement supports exchanges of expertise and technology, collaborative research and joint drone development and manufacturing.
The initiative builds on the company’s existing Finnish office. Sine Engineering said it hopes its workforce in Finland will reach 100 people, with engineers representing 80% of staff.
The company previously said it wanted overseas research centers to recruit radio engineers from Europe and help tackle a shortage of specialists in Ukraine. Its technology also has civilian applications.
