Game-hosting service Itch.io has announced new tools to filter AI-generated material, including a browsing menu option labeled “No AI.” The company said filtering is also being introduced in search and elsewhere on the platform where it had been missing.

Selecting the filter for games brought the visible project count down to less than 425,000 from more than 1.77 million. Itch.io already asks developers to identify generative AI use when appropriate, though its policies do not specify whether missing a required tag carries a penalty.

Under the platform’s existing rules, excessive uploads of automatically generated material, including AI-generated content, are prohibited. Itch.io says it treats such activity as spam. The service also hosts game jams with differing rules: some ban AI, while others center their activities on it.

The larger gaming marketplace Steam requires disclosures concerning generative AI as well. Its store, however, currently lacks an option for users to exclude that content through filtering.
