An EU energy label published by Apple puts the iPad mini 8's battery capacity at 4,900 mAh, below the iPad mini 7's 5,034 mAh. Despite the reduction, Apple's website gives the two tablets the same estimated battery life.

Apple's technical specifications also list the new battery at 18.9 Wh, compared with 19.3 Wh in its predecessor. The capacity figures therefore show a decrease in both measurements, while the company's stated endurance estimates remain unchanged.

The new tablet pairs an A20 Pro chip with an 8.5-inch OLED screen. Its other features include Wi-Fi 7 and an Acoustic Display audio system that replaces speaker holes. Apple describes the design as 15% thinner and lighter than the previous model.

Preorders are open for the iPad mini 8 ahead of its November 6 launch. Pricing in the United States starts at US$699 for the new model.
