Google plans Quick Share integration for Android and iOS apps in 2027
A new developer toolkit will let apps offer file transfers without sending users through the system sharing interface.

Google announced at Android Dev Summit 2026 that it plans to make a Quick Share software development kit available in the first half of 2027. The SDK will allow developers to build peer-to-peer file transfers into Android and iOS apps.
The integration will remove the need for users to open the system Share sheet before entering Quick Share’s fullscreen interface. Instead, starting a transfer inside a third-party app will bring up a bottom sheet with a preview of the files being sent.
Google said transfers will use end-to-end encryption between devices over local networks. The toolkit will automatically create hotspots and use Wi-Fi Direct where devices support it. The company also said photos and videos will not need compression.
According to Google, sharing will work offline without a cellular connection, including in environments where data access is limited. The company also said developers will not need to maintain costly infrastructure. An iOS version of the SDK will support apps on the iPhone.
