Apple will begin requiring developers on November 16 to identify whether their apps offer dating features or share users’ real-world locations. The company says the disclosures will help determine appropriate age ratings.

The Dating and Relationships category covers connections with people as well as virtual companions involving romantic or sexual content, Apple says. Apps in that category must carry a minimum rating of 18+. Developers must provide both category disclosures through App Store Connect by January 12, 2027.

Location-sharing features will not necessarily raise an app’s minimum age rating in every region. Brazil requires an A16 rating for apps classified under Shared Location, while those classified under Dating and Relationships must have an A18 rating.

Apps that could qualify for a lower rating in Brazil can seek one from the country’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Parent-child location-sharing apps are among those that may be eligible.
