Unofficial Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom port brings native play to Windows

SkyboundTOTK is available only as source code, requiring users to build it themselves and supply a legally obtained copy of the supported game version.

Modder NotRexed has published SkyboundTOTK on GitHub, allowing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to run directly on Windows rather than through a Switch emulator. The unofficial project uses recompilation to translate the game's machine code into a PC program.

There is no ready-made executable to download. Users must build the software with development tools on Windows 10 or Windows 11, with at least 45GB of available storage in addition to space for the game files. It requires a legally obtained and extracted copy of version 1.0.0; newer versions are unsupported. No game files, keys or save data are included.

The port includes FSR 1 upscaling, adjustable sharpening and support for both gamepads and keyboard-and-mouse controls. Experimental options include ultrawide display adjustments and frame interpolation, which adds generated frames without increasing the speed of the game simulation.

Those features have limitations: interpolation can introduce input delay and visual artifacts, while ultrawide settings may stretch the picture on some systems. A graphics cache helps later sessions run more smoothly, but stuttering can persist when loading areas or compiling shaders.

In previews shared in mid-October, NotRexed reported between 32 and 59fps using a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and characterized performance as sluggish. Those figures came from early builds. Nintendo has not issued an official PC version of Tears of the Kingdom.
