Meta will stop providing operating system updates for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets after March 2027, according to the company's developer blog. OS v213 will be the final version for both devices, though security fixes will continue through the end of 2027.

The cutoff will not automatically prevent owners from playing games. Meta says it will retain cross-play multiplayer functionality and will not block Quest 2 users from access. Games supporting the headset can keep working, provided they do not require operating system features added after March 2027.

Developers must notify players 6 months before ending support for a game. The Quest Pro, introduced in October 2022, uses the same chipset as the Quest 2 and faces the same operating system update deadline.

The successor models are the US$599 Meta Quest 3, introduced in 2023, and the US$349 Meta Quest 3S, which debuted in 2024.
