Photos posted to Reddit and the MacRumors forums show cracks affecting some iPhone Duo displays, with nearly all the faults located around the hinge. Most of the pictured failures include bright pixels forming a line across one side of the display. The scale of the problem remains unknown.

One Australian owner said he had opened his phone fewer than 20 times during about six hours of ownership before its screen broke. While showing the device to a friend, he felt something beneath the screen around the internal hinge, then heard a crack as he continued opening it.

The owner said there had been no visible marks on either the screen’s inner surface or the outside hinge suggesting damage or a trapped object. He said Apple provided an immediate replacement when he took the phone to a store.

Several photos also show broken screens on demonstration devices in China, whose launch preceded U.S. sales by hours. The circumstances behind most images are unclear, and user-caused damage remains possible. Some reviewers with early access encountered no screen faults during folding tests, though those devices represented a small sample.
