iPhone Duo owners report cracks in foldable screens
Bloomberg verified complaints with more than half a dozen customers, while iFixit suspects a hinge component may be pressing against the display.

Some buyers of Apple’s US$1,999 iPhone Duo have reported damage to its folding display within hours or days of purchase, according to Bloomberg. Apple employees told Bloomberg that engineers are gathering damaged devices and a team is investigating.
Customers described a crunching sound when opening the phone, followed by a fracture at the display’s central fold. White lines or patches also appeared on some screens. Bloomberg verified complaints with more than half a dozen customers, all of whom reported feeling a raised spot beneath the display close to the damage. The issue appears limited to a minority of devices.
Repair company iFixit suspects a support bar inside the hinge may not lower sufficiently when the handset opens, causing contact with the flexible display. That explanation remains a theory. Apple did not answer Bloomberg’s requests for comment.
The Duo is Apple’s first folding phone. It launched amid limited availability and mixed reviews, although reviewers praised the hinge and its barely noticeable screen crease. Preorder stock ran out within minutes. Some customers with damaged phones have received store replacements, while others are waiting for inventory.
