Cognizant said it has established a team involving more than 25,000 employees to help clients adopt OpenAI’s Codex and ChatGPT. The IT services company named the team the OpenAI Frontier Capability Group.

Its initial work will cover software development using Codex, migration of older mainframe systems into cloud environments, and deployment of AI agents for customer service and sales. Cognizant said the obstacle for companies is a shortage of people able to integrate AI into existing systems, rather than access to models.

The company said more than 21,000 employees have earned over 40,000 OpenAI training badges. It also reported that an AI assistant it developed for a global drugmaker had processed more than 5 million conversations and reduced content creation time by 60%.

OpenAI recruited Cognizant and CGI in April to bring Codex to large businesses. Cognizant’s new group follows a separate commitment, made 11 days earlier, of 18,000 staff to support Google’s Gemini.
