Claude introduces bank-account connections for personal finance questions

The US beta connects accounts through Plaid, with access restricted to reading financial information rather than making transactions.

Anthropic is introducing a Personal Finance beta for Claude subscribers in the US with Pro, Max and Ultra plans. The company says customers can connect financial accounts and question the chatbot about their spending, but Claude has no authority to transfer funds, manage money or make investments.

Plaid handles the account connections, keeping bank passwords out of Claude’s view. Available tools include spotting fees and duplicate charges, explaining monthly spending patterns, and producing dashboards or charts using balances and transaction histories covering as much as two years.

Anthropic’s help pages set a connection limit of 16 US banks. For card, investment and loan accounts, the information available to Claude is restricted to credit limits and balances. The company cautions that the chatbot can produce errors and says important numbers should be checked against bank records.

According to Anthropic, Personal Finance carries no advertising or sponsored recommendations. Its help pages say Hub conversations are excluded from training, while discussions involving connected accounts do not become part of Claude’s shared memory. Disconnecting an account does not remove financial figures previously placed in conversations, artifacts or shared links; those require separate deletion.

Anthropic is also exploring cooperation with regulated firms and licensed professionals for larger financial decisions. It has already developed a version aimed at financial advisers and added small-business finance capabilities through Xero.
