Anthropic has overtaken the US government as SpaceX’s biggest customer, Bloomberg reported, citing someone with knowledge of the matter. The AI company was identified as the computing client behind 34.5% of SpaceX’s revenue in the third quarter.

A SpaceX filing disclosed that revenue share but identified the buyer only as “Customer B.” The customer purchases computing capacity from Super Intelligence, SpaceX’s AI business.

Anthropic uses SpaceX data centers in Memphis, Tennessee. Its IPO filing indicates potential spending of up to US$120.5 billion through contracts extending to 2029, with monthly payments of about US$3.1 billion from December.

Those commitments allow Anthropic to withdraw after early 2027 by giving 90 days’ notice. SpaceX’s AI business recorded its first quarterly profit in the latest quarter, while the company’s revenue increased 161%.

Google also buys computing capacity from SpaceX, paying about US$920 million monthly. Bloomberg said Anthropic declined to comment and SpaceX did not respond.
