A European consultancy backed by Anthropic and London-based private equity group Hg is being planned to help businesses develop and implement AI, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the proposal. The independent venture is expected to have London and Berlin offices.

Engineers and consultants would work within customers’ businesses, developing products powered by AI and supporting existing projects. The consultancy would primarily target business software suppliers and other white-collar sectors, while also serving companies in Hg’s portfolio.

The FT reported that Anthropic would finance its participation using its balance sheet. Hg’s contribution would come through funds under its management, including HgCapital Trust, which is listed in London. Neither Anthropic nor Hg commented to the newspaper.

For Anthropic, the proposal would represent its first investment in an independent consultancy based in Europe. It has worked with companies in Hg’s portfolio since 2024 and has relationships with other European private equity groups.

Hg employs around 150 specialists in AI to support adoption among its portfolio businesses. A person cited by the FT said the proposed consultancy was expected to work alongside those specialists, rather than replace the existing team.
