The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has launched a Safari version of Privacy Badger for macOS, bringing its free tracker-blocking extension to Apple's browser. Users need Safari 26.5 or later to run it.

The extension is designed to stop advertising trackers from monitoring browsing activity across websites. It can also block cookies and strip click-tracking information from links that take users away from Facebook and Google.

Safari's built-in protections restrict the information available to trackers but still allow them to load. Privacy Badger takes a different approach by preventing trackers from loading, stopping techniques that could otherwise get around Safari's safeguards.

According to the EFF, the software uses algorithms to distinguish tracking activity from other web content. Advertising is not blocked simply because it is advertising; the extension targets ads when they also track users. Privacy Badger was already available for Firefox, Chrome and Edge before the Safari launch.
