Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has received positive feedback from 94% of its Steam reviews during early campaign access, ahead of its October 23 launch. That gives it the franchise’s highest Steam rating since Black Ops in 2010.

Steam lists 4,068 reviews for the game, with verified buyers accounting for 3,438. Its overall classification is “Very Positive.” Players who pre-order can access the campaign before the full game becomes available.

The early reception differs from ratings for several recent entries. On SteamDB, Black Ops 7, released in 2025, stands at 38.7%. The corresponding figures are 45.7% for 2024’s Black Ops 6 and 48.1% for Modern Warfare III from 2023. Black Ops III has an 84.3% positive rating.

The full release will include multiplayer offerings featuring 12 core 6v6 maps and DMZ, an extraction-shooter mode where squads can contain up to three players. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for Windows, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.
