Apple’s iOS 27.2 and HomePod 27.2 updates will introduce an option to restrict responses to touches on a HomePod’s top surface, according to leaker pdfu. The setting, called Lock Controls, will be available through the Home app.

Apple’s description says enabling the option prevents touches on the top cap from starting audio playback or triggering actions. It does not disable every touch response: Intercom, timers, alarms, Check In and FaceTime calls will remain responsive.

In an October 19, 2026 post, pdfu cited the HomePod software 27.2 release candidate as indicating support across all HomePod models. That includes the first-generation HomePod from 2018.

According to pdfu, users should find the option within their HomePod’s accessory settings in the Home app after updating both their iPhone and HomePod.
