Google said at Android Dev Summit 2026 that detachable devices would soon join the Googlebook lineup, extending the range beyond its existing clamshell and convertible designs. The company announced the planned form factor during its developer keynote.

The launch lineup has five models. Four use a clamshell design: Asus Googlebook 14, Dell XPS Googlebook, HP Googlebook 14 and Lenovo Googlebook 15. The $899 Acer Googlebook 14 is the only convertible, supporting laptop, tent and tablet configurations.

Googlebook OS currently has some display-orientation restrictions in tablet use. Apps can run fullscreen in portrait orientation, but the homescreen and desktop interface, Overview and app tray remain restricted to landscape.

A July leak pointed to Lenovo as the likely maker of the first detachable Googlebook. It described a tablet equipped with a removable keyboard, a kickstand and a Glowbar beside the camera. The leak also included a laptop smaller than Lenovo’s current 15-inch model.
