The release of God of War Laufey has shifted from February 16 to May 20, 2027, a three-month postponement announced by Santa Monica Studio on social media. The game is exclusive to PS5.

Explaining the decision, the studio said it would spend the remaining development time polishing the game. It also expressed gratitude for fans' response to the June unveiling, which introduced Faye's journey through the Everywhen.

Faye is the playable character in Laufey. Her death precedes the opening of God of War (2018) and sets its events in motion. The new game follows her awakening in the afterlife, with her adventure running alongside those of Kratos, her husband, and Atreus, her son, across God of War and God of War Ragnarök.

The new date puts Laufey after Sony's Until Dawn 2, scheduled for January 28. Sony also usually brings out its annual MLB The Show game in March.
