Apple issues repair guidance for cracked iPhone Duo displays
Apple says a small number of phones are affected. iFixit suspects a defective hinge, but Apple has not commented on the cause.

An internal Apple memo obtained by MacRumors outlines how retail and authorized repair technicians should assess iPhone Duo phones with cracked inner screens. Staff are instructed to inspect phones when customers report the fault, then use standard procedures for repairs or replacements.
Apple described the problem as affecting a small number of phones, both in the memo and in a separate public statement. The company said most units are not susceptible and that affected devices appear to show defects shortly after use starts. It told customers with display issues to contact AppleCare to arrange a replacement.
Reports from a handful of early owners emerged shortly after deliveries started. They described cracks in the inner display, accompanied by lines running through the middle and toward the screen's right side.
Following a teardown, electronics repair website iFixit suggested a defective hinge was the likely cause. Apple has not commented on the underlying cause. The company said there is no recall, and MacRumors reported that no public repair program for the fault had been posted on Apple's website.
