Amazon cuts up to 250 devices and services jobs
Reuters reported that software developers were the main group affected. Amazon confirmed job cuts but did not disclose how many roles were eliminated.

Amazon has eliminated up to 250 positions in its devices and services business, according to Reuters. The company acknowledged the layoffs in response to the news agency’s questions but did not confirm the reported number.
A person with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that developers accounted for most of the affected employees, who received notifications through email and text messages. An Amazon spokesperson said the reductions were intended to improve efficiency and align staffing with product plans. Reuters also saw a message from HR vice president Cherie Robinson describing a review of the organization’s structure.
The business produces Kindle e-readers, Echo speakers and other Alexa-enabled hardware. The layoffs follow launches of Kindle devices and tablets, as well as the announcement of an Alexa-powered alarm clock and photo frame.
Amazon also eliminated fewer than 1,000 retail office positions across the US, India and the UK. Business Insider first reported those reductions, which affected customer service and marketplace support among other teams.
Since 2022, Amazon has eliminated more than 57,000 corporate positions, representing about 16% of its corporate workforce. Separately, the company said it plans to recruit more than 300,000 workers in the US for the holiday season, with most positions in warehousing and delivery.
