Aformic has secured US$6.95 million in a seed round led by Veteran Ventures Capital, the industrial robotics startup said. It will use the funding to expand its workforce, develop software and create robots for additional tasks, including AI data center construction and maintenance.

The startup reported orders worth more than US$34 million and said hundreds of its robots are in use. Its customer list includes Oshkosh Defense, Hyundai Mobis, Toyota, Hitachi and 3M.

From its base in Duncan, South Carolina, Aformic makes autonomous carts and forklifts that transport materials and parts within warehouses and factories. The robots do not require floor markers or tape to navigate; its Qursor software assigns work and determines routes.

The financing also drew participation from Alamo Angels, Red Beard Ventures, Mana Ventures and ff Venture Capital. Planned spending includes hiring additional engineers and sales employees, as well as further work on Qursor.

Aformic began as a spinout of AIUT, a Polish industrial automation group. Engineering and production remain in Gliwice, Poland.
