A home-office idea for better golf awards grew into a family-owned business creating personalized recognition and gifts.
Norwood, Massachusetts, October 5, 2026 -- Prize Possessions is looking ahead to its 50th anniversary in 2027, nearly five decades after Ginny Durfee and Sarah Foehl started the business in 1977 with an idea for better golf awards than the ones their husbands were winning.
The company began with a single phone line, a typewriter, a small engraving machine and a client list of 30. Its first order was an awards commission for a local golf club, work that set the direction for what would become a personalized recognition and gifts business. Details of that founding period and the company's growth are recorded in its company history.
Rising demand through the 1980s led the company to move into a facility in Needham, Massachusetts, before later relocating to Norwood, where it remains based today. At its 20th anniversary in 1997, the company served more than 5,000 customers and moved into a 10,000-square-foot facility in Norwood. That year also saw typewriters give way to computers and the creation of a 20-page catalog.
Prize Possessions has continued to expand its personalization capabilities in the decades since. The company added laser engraving and airbrush color fill in 2003, expanded its glass etching capabilities in 2007, and introduced PrizeColor inkjet personalization in 2020. Alongside its awards and recognition items, the company now also offers custom collectibles and card printing, extending its personalization work beyond traditional trophies and plaques.
With expanding personalization and engraving techniques throughout the years, Prize Possessions was now positioned to be able to serve many other markets and industries outside of the golf world. Those industries include sailing, equestrian, trapshooting, sporting clays, polo, dog shows, tennis, the collegiate market, and collectible card services.
Over the years, Prize Possessions has consistently expanded and revamped its product line to include awards and gifts that work great in all areas of competition and recognition. The company specializes in member-guest and club championship awards, sailing regatta and race awards, equestrian show awards, year end banquet awards, collegiate athlete awards, croquet match awards, dog show awards, trapshooting, skeet shooting and sporting clays shooting awards, as well as many racquet sports including tennis, squash and pickleball.
The company's work today spans golf clubs, tournament organizers, businesses purchasing recognition awards, and individual gift buyers, drawing on techniques developed since its founding. More information on the company and its offerings is available at Prize Possessions.
