Pertaining to his educational pursuits, he graduated with his medical degree- cum laude- from the University of Athens in Greece in 1972. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1976, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the New York Medical College in 1978.
In 2016, Dr. Mentakis earned his Master's degree in Cardiology Management and Economics at the London School of Economics, attended his Master of Business Administration degree at Athens University in 2017, and completed his Masters's degree-MBA- in the University of Mass.
Dr.Mentakis is aCertified Physician Executive(CPE).
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease by the European Society of Cardiology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of both the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
Speaking several languages, Dr. Mentakis is fluent in English, Greek, and German.
